Citizenship test branded unfair The new citizenship test's 20 percent failure rate is proof the system of questioning prospective Australians is flawed and unfair, according to Fairfield Councillor Thang Ngo. He spoke out against the test before it was introduced in October last year, saying now it was time for it to be scrapped. "It's disgusting that we're excluding one in five migrants who want to make a commitment to Australia," he said. Cr Ngo said tweaking the questions asked of potential citizens would not solve the problem. "You can't tinker with something that is simply wrong," he said. "It's insulting to ask a refugee or asylum seeker who came to Australia by boat - risking your life shows more commitment to Australia than passing any test." |
