I'd like to congratulate the Champion and its editor, Heloise Reece, for her stance (`We wear our scars proudly', March 12) in support of the local community.

For too long outsiders, academics, and other media have felt they can use Fairfield, and in particular Cabramatta, as a convenient scape goat for all evils in society.

Those unwarranted criticism and labels do our community a dis-service. They simply entrench the problems without offering any solutions.

I acknowledge the positive work of both local newspapers in highlighting the beauty of our area. In particular, I am really pleased to see Heloise address the issue openly and frankly in last week's Editor's Note.
