CABRAMATTA DCP CONCERNS DELAY IMPLEMENTATION

This week, Cr Thang Ngo will move to extend the consultation period of the draft Cabramatta Development Control Plan (DCP) after many residents and businesses claimed they are unaware the DCP exists.

"For Cabramatta, this DCP is probably the most important document for the next decade, as it will affect the character, rate of development and amenity of residents and local businesses" said Cr Ngo.

Yet many are claiming they don’t know anything about this DCP which is currently on display with submission deadline of 10 February.

"Council needs to communicate more intensively with non-English speaking residents and businesses of Cabramatta - considering they make up around 3 in 5 residents and almost 9 in 10 businesses" said Cr Ngo.

I have asked Council to translate the brochure about the DCP into other languages as a matter of urgency"

The in-language brochure should be available in two weeks. Cr Ngo will move in Council for the closing date of submissions to be deferred until this brochure has been in circulation for at least four weeks.

"This DCP will change Cabramatta forever, once development starts, you can’t reverse it, so I think we need to proceed slowly and with understandable caution"

I urge all residents to take the time to look at this draft DCP and contact me if you have any concerns" he concluded.

The DCP is on exhibition until 10 February at Whitlam Library, Council’s Ware Street Office in Fairfield and Council’s Offices in Wakeley.
