Red Cross to appeal for help
RED Cross fundraisers are hoping to almost double the money they collect from Fairfield this year. Volunteers will hit the streets of western Sydney throughout March, to raise money for the 32nd Red Cross Door Knock Appeal. Staff from Fairfield Council and Red Cross volunteers are hoping to raise $150,000 in western Sydney. Fairfield councillor Thang Ngo said the council was helping raise funds because the money stays in NSW. He said that $150,000 was a reasonable estimation of what can be achieved. ``We analysed last year's figures in the Liverpool/Fairfield area and we held our own with the wealthier suburbs,'' Cr Ngo said. Spokeswoman, Alison Skehan said the Red Cross hoped to raise $2.1 million dollars in NSW this year. ``Money collected in Fairfield will help increase the amount of vital community services we can offer to western Sydney,'' Ms Skehan said. ``Fairfield earned $3000 for the cause last year, we estimate we will raise $5000 this year from the area.'' |
