COMMUNITY SATISFIED WITH CABRAMATTA CARPARK PLAN

The revised plan for the long-awaited Cabramatta carpark was presented to the Cabramatta/Canley Vale Town Centre meeting last Thursday, 28 March.

The plans have been revised following input from the community and both Cabramatta Chamber of Commerce and Cabramatta Business Association.

The Cabramatta business community raised concerns with earlier versions of the plan because they feared it would lead to a mini-Wesfield which would be detrimental to existing, unique local businesses.

Of particular concern was new retail spaces in the redeveloped multi-storey carpark and a new multi storey carpark both located in Dutton Lane.

Earlier Council had insisted the plan was ‘take it or leave it’ when the business community was concerned that the retail space under the plan was greater than they had initially agreed to.

However, the revised plans presented last week took into account business concerns and was generally well received.

The plans sees a net increase of parking by 420 spaces with the largest retail space being a single use – Aldi type super market.

The Cinema concept remains as well as several community spaces.

Cr Ngo who advocated on behalf of the business community was pleased that Council’s consultant was able to satisfy most of the community’s concerns.

The next stage will be a tender process and it is believed the entire project would be completed around 2005.
