Friday, 25 August 2000 Media Release POLICE COMMISSIONER MUST RESTORE CONFIDENCE IN CABRAMATTA The only Vietnamese-speaking Councillor in Fairfield has called on the Police Commissioner to intervene in the open bickering that is destroying public confidence in police in Cabramatta."Cabramatta has already lost around 20% of much needed police officers due to the Olympics, we need the few that are left to work together for the sake of everyone" said Fairfield Councillor Thang Ngo. The Cabramatta community is crying out for action on drugs - the number one problem of Cabramatta according to Cr Ngo. "During the past couple of days, I have received calls and even faxes from distressed residents concerned that Police arent doing enough to tackle drugs in Cabramatta" he said. "They have also indicated a wish for Police to move quickly to resolve the now apparent internal conflict within Cabramatta local area command. "Recently, the Cabramatta community was shocked to learn even school children are too scared to play in public playgrounds, such as Hughes St Park in Cabramatta. Cr Ngo believes only with the direct intervention by the Commissioner will the internal Police bickering in Cabramatta be resolved. "I know the Commissioner has indicated repeated in the past that there was no need for him to come to Cabramatta" said Cr Ngo. "However, if there was ever a community that needs him, its Cabramatta right now" concluded Cr Ngo. ENDS Media Contact: UNITY Councillor Thang Ngo (02) 9500 2856 |
