FIRST WEBSITE BY AUSTRALIAN LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILLOR
In an Australian first, this week Fairfield Councillor Thang Ngo launched his official "Councillor Website" in response to requests by his constituents for better communication between Councillors and residents.
www.thangngo.com is believed to be the first of its kind in Australia, according to Cr Ngo.
The site includes regular reports by Cr Ngo on his activities in council, controversial local issues and background information on Cr Ngo and his UNITY party.
"24 hours a day, 7 days - it's all there to keep residents totally up-to-date with my activities, and their feedback is welcomed" said Cr Ngo.
And of course residents can always send me an email if they need help, too".
Sending requests via email can be much more efficient, according to Cr Ngo.
"Residents can send emails from the comfort of the home or office, there's no need to write formal letters, buy stamps or dragging themselves to the post office" he said.
And I can easily on-forward these requests to the relevant Council area for action, quickly and easily"
Cr Ngo regularly communicates with residents through stories in the local press. However, he believes the benefit of a website is that it allows for two-way interaction.
"Residents can actually tell me what they think... it's not just about me telling them" he said.
Cr Ngo intends to increase the interactivity of www.thangngo.com in the future by allowing residents to vote online on "hot" local issues.
"The general consensus is that politicians only talk to residents just before the election - once they're in, they disappear. I want to change all that" concluded Cr Ngo.
