Refugee a Candidate

A former refugee is making a bid to become the first person of Vietnamese descent to be elected to Federal Parliament.

Thang Ngo has become so incensed watching the resurgence of Pauline Hanson's One Nation he has agreed to stand as the candidate for the Unity party at this year's federal election.

The 34 year old councillor from Fairfield said his decision to run as UNITY'S number one candidate was a decision that came from the heart.

"Each time I hear the rhetoric of hate, it's like a cruel, ignorant knife slashing me and other migrant Australians."

UNITY was established just weeks before the 1998 Federal election to counter Pauline Hanson policies.
