Summary of Council's response 10 July 2007

The matter of the drainage system installed at the premises at 117 John Street , corner of Hill Street , has been thoroughly investigated :

- placing a concrete dish drain to be constructed across that intersection so that the bituminous paved surface at that corner is not damaged by the frequent presence of these flows.

- There are a few problems with the waste water drainage systems installed at 117 John Street and it is proposed that a further inspection be made with a Building Surveyor with a view to requiring the owners of the property to completely overhaul the system.

- With regard to the intermittent flow of some form of polluting water from time to time, it is considered that this may come from the activities of washing out of waste bins and other containers that are used in connection with a number of kitchens that back onto the parking area. The occupiers have been advised and warned about washing of any containers in this area.

- a notice be served under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act requiring the provision of bunds and other measures around existing grease traps to prevent any pollution that might occur as a result of the accidental overflow from those traps.
